School campaign: about 800 families in Cyprus received aid for the new school year

About 800 families across the Republic of Cyprus have already received assistance from the Pancyprian Coordinating Council for Volunteering to prepare children for the start of the school year in September. This was announced by Council Chairman Ilias Dimitriou on August 27.

More than 600 families who received support live in the mountainous areas of Limassol and were affected by the major fire in July 2025. Gift vouchers for school supplies were distributed to children from the villages of Souniou, Kivides and Pakhna. The annual campaign will continue until September 2, and the total number of beneficiaries is expected to exceed 1,500 families. If the number of applications increases, the deadline may be extended.

Dimitriou also noted the need for repairs in kindergartens and parks in the Limassol mountains and emphasized the importance of greater state involvement in social support issues. For residents of the affected areas, timely and targeted assistance remains a key factor in school preparation and recovery after emergencies. As recent years’ data show, such initiatives help minimize the social consequences of crisis events in Cyprus.
