Cypriot President to address Greek Parliament for the first time in 16 years
President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides will address the Greek Parliament on May 14 at the invitation of Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis. The upcoming address is viewed as a major political event for the relations between the two countries and will represent a significant diplomatic intervention amid regional challenges.
The last time a Cypriot president addressed Greek MPs was in 2010. On that occasion, Dimitris Christofias delivered a speech in the Greek Parliament to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Cyprus.
During his speech, Christodoulides is expected to touch upon the Cyprus issue, regional security, and cooperation between Athens and Nicosia. The visit also highlights the close political and historical ties between Cyprus and Greece.
