Sewage discharged into the Dere stream in Lefke again: environmentalists demand urgent action

The Lefke Environmental and Ecology Association stated that in the Gemikonagi area, sewage (wastewater) is again entering the local stream and called on authorities to take permanent, not temporary, measures.
According to representatives of the organization, following residents’ complaints, activists went to the site, documented the situation, and prepared a report with photo and video materials. The document has already been sent to the Lefke Municipality and the Department of Environment. It is noted that there is a strong smell of waste around the stream, which negatively affects people’s quality of life.
Environmentalists remind that about a month ago, there was already a similar problem in the same area — at that time the municipality claimed it had resolved it. However, the recurrence of the incident shows that it was only a temporary solution. The association emphasizes that the discharge of sewage into a natural watercourse poses a risk to the environment and human health and expects responsible authorities to take urgent and long-term steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
