Two samples of local produce in Cyprus declared unsafe: harvest destroyed

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has published the latest results of agricultural product quality controls for the period from December 5 to 11.
According to the ministry, all 29 samples of imported products were found to be “clean” — no excess levels or the use of non-compliant plant protection products were detected.
Sixteen samples of local produce were inspected. Fourteen met the standards, while in two cases the use of non-recommended plant protection products was identified.
The cases concern:
- red kapia peppers belonging to a resident of Güzelyurt, İsmail Dağcılar;
- celery root vegetables (kerviz) grown by a resident of Yeşilırmak, Ömer Aktaş.
As non-approved substances were found in these samples, the entire corresponding harvest was destroyed.
The ministry reminds that inspections are carried out regularly, and products found in violation are not allowed onto the market to ensure consumer safety.
