Cyprus approves installation of desalination plant in Mazotos
Cypriot authorities have given the green light for the construction of a mobile water desalination plant in the Mazotos area (Larnaca).
The project aims to address the water deficit problem and reduce dependence on rainfall and reservoirs. The plant is expected to produce up to 20,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, with the possibility of increasing capacity.
The facility is scheduled to operate for approximately 7 years.
The project also includes the construction of offshore and onshore pipelines for seawater intake and brine discharge. Special attention has been paid to environmental aspects, with studies conducted on the impact on the marine environment.
According to experts, the risk to ecosystems, including marine plants, is minimal.
The implementation of the project is expected to help increase the country's resilience to the effects of climate change and ensure a stable water supply.
