New stage of home modernization program with 20 million euro budget starts in Cyprus
The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus has announced the launch of the third call for the "Save - Upgrade Home" program. Applications will open in September, and the total budget for this stage will be 20 million euros.
Energy Minister George Papanastasiou noted that with the launch of the new call, the total funding of the THALEIA program for the energy upgrading of the housing stock will reach 85 million euros.
The program provides for government subsidies of up to 32,000 euros per household depending on the nature of the investment. Funding can be directed towards thermal insulation of buildings, replacement of windows and doors, installation of shading systems, upgrading heating and cooling, as well as the implementation of solar water heating systems and photovoltaic systems with or without energy storage. Costs for the services of certified specialists are also covered.
Special attention is given to supporting vulnerable groups, mountain residents, and refugees living in special settlements. For these groups, the subsidy amount is increased by 20%.
Only individuals owning homes built before January 1, 2008, with a valid domestic electricity tariff, are eligible to participate in the program.
The Ministry noted that previous stages of the program faced delays due to the high volume of applications submitted simultaneously. In this regard, measures have been taken to optimize processing and accelerate payments.
It is also reported that the authorities have contacted the European Commission to coordinate on-site spot-check mechanisms, which should improve the efficiency of monitoring and the transparency of fund distribution.
