Light Barriers Installed Around Turtle Nests in Northern Cyprus

On one of Northern Cyprus's beaches, light barriers have been installed around turtle nests to prevent the turtles and their hatchlings from reaching nearby caravans.

According to a statement from the Society for the Protection of Turtles (SPOT) of Northern Cyprus on social media, the increasing number of caravans in the Kaplıca beach area and the light pollution from the "caravan city" have caused turtles leaving their nests to head towards the caravans instead of the sea, resulting in their deaths.

"To address this problem, we installed light barriers around the turtle nests. This has worked: thanks to the barrier system, the hatchlings made it to the water and reached the sea, rather than heading to the caravan city," the animal protection group stated.
