Damage from Road Accidents in Northern Cyprus Exceeds 4.5 Million Lira in One Week

Over the past week, 70 road accidents were reported in Northern Cyprus, leading to one fatality and injuries to 19 others.

Speeding remains the leading cause of these accidents. The total estimated damage from the incidents reached 4.6 million Turkish lira.

According to the weekly report from the police, the causes of the accidents were broken down as follows: 23 were attributed to speeding, 16 to reckless driving, 14 to failing to stop at intersections, 10 to not maintaining a safe following distance, and 7 to other traffic violations.

Regionally, 21 accidents occurred in Kyrenia, 17 in Lefkoşa, 15 in Famagusta, 9 in İskele, and 8 in Güzelyurt.

During the week, police carried out road inspections involving 12,724 drivers. Out of these, 2,240 were found violating traffic rules. As a result, 256 vehicles were prohibited from use, and 11 drivers were taken into custody. Speeding was once again the most common violation, with 23 instances recorded.
