KTSYD: Cyberattacks on journalists threaten freedom of speech in Northern Cyprus
On April 16, 2026, the Cyprus Turkish Sports Writers Association (KTSYD) stated that cyberattacks and restrictions on the accounts of journalists and media outlets pose a serious threat to freedom of expression and the public's right to information in Northern Cyprus, reported Kıbrıs Postası.
In a written statement from the KTSYD board, it was emphasized that the ability of journalists to perform their duties freely and independently is of vital importance. According to the association, attacks and restrictions aimed at journalists, media organizations, and digital platforms effectively target the entire society.
KTSYD warned that such interventions could lead to disruptions in the news flow, blocking of materials, or hindering access to them, which is unacceptable in terms of the right to information and freedom of expression. The association also officially expressed its commitment to opposing all forms of pressure on the press and declared itself a defender of a free and pluralistic media environment.
The statement is addressed to the general public and aims to draw attention to the need to protect independent journalistic sources and platforms in the face of growing digital risks.
