Brothers arrested after daring home robbery in Lapta
In the Lapta–Alsancak area, police detained two brothers suspected of illegal entry into a residential building, theft, and intentional damage to property. According to the investigation, the incident occurred between May 9 and 10.
As reported by Lapta police station representative Okay Güllü at the Girne District Court, the perpetrators broke down a locked door and entered the house. A cash box and gold table legs with decorative horse elements were stolen from the residence.
According to the investigator, the house was literally turned upside down. The suspects also damaged the owner's property — they broke a family photo frame and tore the photograph itself.
M.T. and A.T. were detained the day before in the yard of a house where, according to police, they were tending to dogs. In their initial statements, the brothers claimed they thought the house was abandoned and were merely curious about it.
Police have seized CCTV footage from the area and continue to gather evidence. The investigation is also establishing the location of the stolen property and checking the suspects' possible involvement in other crimes.
Judge Mine G. Serden ordered the suspects to be held in custody for three days, noting that the investigation is in its early stages and requires further action.
