Bloody conflict in Nicosia: man stabs roommate with knife after argument

A serious crime involving a weapon occurred in the Kiziltas area of Lefkosa. According to police, on May 16, 2026, at around 22:50, the suspect stabbed his roommate once in the abdomen during a conflict that arose between them.

Police officer Hasan Kabadayılar informed the court that the victim sustained a severe wound from a knife with a 13.5 cm blade. Following the incident, he was rushed to the Lefkosa State Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was placed in the surgical ward. Doctors continue to fight for his life, and the patient's condition is assessed as critical.

According to the investigation, the suspect voluntarily turned himself in to the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department after the incident. The murder weapon — the knife — was found and seized at the house as material evidence.

The police noted that the investigation is in its initial stages and warned that the suspect's release could affect the course of the case. In view of this, the court was informed of the need to remand the man in custody for up to three days.

During the hearing, the suspect gave a brief explanation, stating: "He behaved badly at home, talked too much, so I stabbed him."
