Another Arrest Made in the Street Brawl on Zahra Street in Nicosia
On Monday, the court arrested another suspect in the case of a mass brawl that occurred on February 22 on Zahra Street in the fortified city of Nicosia. Earlier, 18 more participants in the brawl had already been arrested.
Today, Ahmet Aydogdu appeared before the court, who, as it turned out, was also involved in the brawl.
Recall that the mass brawl in the most popular entertainment district of Nicosia took place late in the evening on February 22. It is not reported exactly what the young people were arguing about; however, judging by the videos posted on social media from the scene, sticks, stones, and even tables and chairs from local cafes were used.
About 150 young people aged approximately 17 to 22 participated in the brawl. As later reported by the police, many of them are well-known to law enforcement for their involvement in local youth gangs and have had previous run-ins with the law.
In response to the incident, the Nicosia Police Department initiated a large-scale investigation. At the initial stage, about a hundred statements were collected. 18 individuals identified through camera footage were arrested.
Another suspect was arrested by the court for one day today.
