Two men arrested in Nicosia in jewelry theft fraud case
Police have arrested two men aged 49 and 25 as part of an investigation into fraud and the theft of jewelry in the Nicosia area.
The incident was reported to the police on January 31, 2026. According to the victim, during the day he received a phone call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an employee of the Cyprus Electricity Authority. The caller said that an urgent voltage check was required at the house.
Under the pretext that metal objects and jewelry could affect the measurements or cause damage, the fake technician persuaded the man to collect all the jewelry, place it in a bowl, and take it outside. The complainant was then instructed to return to the house, allegedly to continue the inspection.
A few minutes later, when he went outside, the man discovered that the jewelry had disappeared.
During the investigation, police obtained statements indicating the involvement of two suspects. The court issued arrest warrants, after which both men were arrested and brought before the Nicosia court.
The court ordered that the suspects be remanded in custody for eight days. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department’s burglary unit.
