Cyprus police conduct nationwide overnight raids: nine people detained
Last night, Cyprus police conducted large-scale preventive operations in various districts across the country. Increased patrols and checks were organized at key urban locations to prevent crime, maintain public order, and improve citizen safety.
During the operations, law enforcement officers detained nine individuals on various charges. These include assault and bodily harm, illegal drug possession, as well as violations of migration laws and illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus.
Overnight, police officers stopped approximately 400 vehicles for inspection and checked 516 drivers and passengers. Additionally, inspections were carried out at 39 establishments, resulting in two administrative reports.
Special attention was paid to traffic control. Police issued 225 fines for various traffic violations and initiated 12 cases for serious offenses. Thirteen vehicles were also seized as part of the investigations.
The most common violation was speeding, with 101 cases recorded. Furthermore, police identified five drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and two drivers who tested positive in preliminary drug tests. In total, 75 breathalyzer tests and two drug tests were conducted overnight.
Police emphasized that such operations will continue daily as part of the fight against crime and public order violations.
