Bus Drivers in Nicosia Hold Two-Hour Strike
On Friday, bus drivers in Cyprus are holding a two-hour work stoppage from 09:00 to 11:00. The action is organized by members of the OMEPEGE-SEC and SEGDAMELIN-PEO trade unions.
At the same time, union representatives are holding a protest at Solomou Square in Nicosia.
According to the unions, they have repeatedly contacted the Ministry of Transport regarding issues related to the operation of the traffic camera system, but have yet to receive a solution.
Driver representatives point out that sudden braking of buses at traffic lights can be dangerous for passengers, especially if people are standing or sitting without seatbelts. Consequently, they have proposed the installation of red-light warning systems so that drivers can reduce speed in advance.
The unions apologized to passengers for any inconvenience caused by the action.
