The Limassol Municipality, in collaboration with the Eratosthenes Research Centre, is launching a project to create a state-of-the-art digital information centre dedicated to the development of zero-emission “green” cities. The new facility will be located on the premises of the former GSO cafe above the bridge — one of the city's iconic but long-abandoned spots.

The initiative is being implemented under the European “Mission Cities 2030” program, which aims to help EU cities achieve climate neutrality by 2030. Approximately 800 thousand euros have been allocated for the creation of the centre.

The project involves the complete reconstruction of the building and equipping it with modern technologies. The centre will feature video walls, virtual and augmented reality systems, interactive screens, holographic installations, and a digital system for real-time monitoring of the city's environmental indicators.

Particular attention will be paid to the environmental education of residents, primarily children and youth. It is planned that the centre will become not only a platform for informing citizens but also a kind of “living laboratory” where solutions in the field of sustainable development and climate policy will be demonstrated.

The project will also include the creation of a small meteorological station to track air quality and other environmental parameters in Limassol.

The municipality believes that the new centre will help strengthen Limassol's status as one of Europe's pioneer cities in environmental transformation. In the future, the facility could serve as a model for other European cities participating in the climate neutrality program.
