A fence was installed at the sea caves in Cape Greco after a series of injuries
The Forestry Department has installed a temporary fence near the Sea Caves in the Cape Greco area to prevent visitors from jumping into the water and to reduce the risk of injuries. The measure was taken after a series of incidents that in recent years required the intervention of rescue services.
According to the department, especially last summer a large number of cases were recorded in this area in which holidaymakers were injured while jumping from the rocks and required the assistance of rescuers. This prompted the state authorities to seek a solution that would both ensure people's safety and not damage the unique geological formation located on state forest land.
As noted in the Forestry Department's statement, the installed fence is temporary and aims to prevent dangerous behavior by visitors. The measure has been coordinated with a number of services, including the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (KSED), the Geological Survey Department, the Department of Environment and the Fire Service.
The authorities are urging citizens to strictly observe warning signs and avoid actions that could threaten life and health. The department also said it will continue to monitor the situation and adjust safety measures if necessary.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the decision was received positively, as many specialists had previously warned about the high risk of serious accidents in this area and the need for urgent measures to prevent tragedies.
