In Australia, the case of a former doctor of Cypriot origin from Brisbane, who faces dozens of charges of rape and sexual assault against female patients, has sparked widespread public outcry.
According to Australian media reports, 74-year-old Stelios “Stan” Theodoros is scheduled to appear in court on June 23. Investigators state that the former doctor faces 148 charges, of which 94 are related to rape and another 54 to sexual offences.
The investigation began in August 2025 after several women came forward to the police with statements. To examine the case, the Queensland Police Service launched a special operation named Xray Cariyna.
According to law enforcement authorities, the alleged offences took place between the early 2000s and 2015. At that time, Theodoros was working as a general practitioner at a medical center in the Tarragindi area of Brisbane.
The prosecution alleges that 15 women, ranging in age from late teens to their around 40s, fell victim to the former doctor. According to the police, all the alleged episodes occurred during medical examinations and consultations.
Australian authorities are continuing their investigation and do not rule out the emergence of new statements from potential victims. The case has already sparked a serious public reaction and once again raised questions regarding the oversight of medical professionals' practice and patient protection.
