Cyprus and India strengthen strategic partnership: Christodoulides departs on state visit to New Delhi

President Nikos Christodoulides has departed on a state visit to India, where he will hold a series of talks aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between the two nations. The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is viewed as a continuation of his trip to Cyprus in June 2025.
A state visit — the highest level of diplomatic reception — takes place against the backdrop of an active rapprochement between Cyprus and India, as well as India's growing role as one of the key global economic and technological hubs.
The main topics of the negotiations will include investment, technology, shipping, energy, security, education, and digital infrastructure. Particular attention will be paid to the development of the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which Nicosia views as an opportunity to transform Cyprus into an important logistical and financial hub between Europe and Asia.
The itinerary includes Mumbai and New Delhi. In Mumbai, the President will participate in the Cyprus-India Business Forum, meet with investors, visit the Indian Stock Exchange, and inaugurate a Eurobank representative office.
According to the government, the visit also occurs amid deepening cooperation between the European Union and India, including the promotion of a free trade agreement. Nicosia believes this creates new opportunities for the Cypriot economy and the country's international positioning.
The Cypriot delegation is accompanied by ministers and representatives from Invest Cyprus, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the business community.
