Cyprus police step up road checks during the holiday period

In Cyprus, a festive road safety campaign has begun: the police are increasing the number of patrols and checks during the Christmas and New Year period. The aim is to reduce the risk of accidents amid the traditional rise in traffic and travel across the island.
Inspectors will pay special attention to the most common causes of road accidents: speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances, using a mobile phone while driving, as well as failure to wear seat belts and use child safety seats. Checks are planned both on highways and in cities and tourist areas.
The police emphasize that the checks are preventive in nature, however, legal measures will be applied for dangerous violations.
