The Green Party Will Hold a Protest Against Construction Near a Waterfall in Cyprus

In Cyprus, the Green Party will hold a protest against a private project in a riverbed, which allegedly involves the use of a natural waterfall. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 24.

Environmentalists claim that the project has already caused damage to a waterfall on the Krios Potamos River in Troodos, which is home to the Caledonian and Millomeri waterfalls.

"We are closely monitoring the developments and the environmental impact caused by the construction of a house on the Krios River in Platres, which is leading to severe environmental degradation," the Green Party said in a statement.

According to Cyprus Mail, citing sources, the building in question belongs to "a very well-known Greek-Cypriot architect from Limassol with strong connections." A complaint has already been filed with the office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Environment.

Environmentalists claim that the construction permit was issued bypassing the competent authorities.

The protest, which will begin at 17:00, will be attended by the leader of the Green Party, Yiorgos Perdikis.
