Limassol baby abduction case: extradition request sent to TRNC
The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have sent an official request to the Turkish Cypriot side for the extradition of a 29-year-old man of Turkish origin, suspected of abducting his young son from his British mother in Limassol. This was reported by the Cyprus Information Bureau, specifying that the request was transmitted through the Bicommunal Bureau of the Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters.
As a reminder, an arrest warrant had previously been issued for the suspect by the Republic of Cyprus Police. The incident, which caused a wide public outcry, continues to be actively investigated by law enforcement agencies.
Parallel to this, as part of the case, police detained a 53-year-old man who is allegedly involved in the abduction as an accomplice. The detention took place in Larnaca around 22:10 on Wednesday. The court ordered his remand in custody for a period of eight days.
Investigators are also examining a video posted on social media, in which the 29-year-old suspect is seen with the child in a car. The recording is being treated as important evidence to establish the travel route and the circumstances of the abduction.
According to the police, the investigation is ongoing, and all possible channels of interaction with the Turkish Cypriot side are being used to locate the child and detain the main suspect.
