Ayia Napa to Spend €140,000 on Beach Upgrades
Ayia Napa has signed two new contracts to upgrade its beach infrastructure and improve visitor services ahead of the summer season. A total of €140,000 has been allocated for these improvements.
The municipality will use the funds to purchase new sunbed cushions, loungers, and umbrellas equipped with built-in ashtrays. These upgrades aim to boost both comfort and cleanliness along the popular resort’s coastline. Most of the funding will come from a beach modernization grant program run by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
The first contract covers 450 beach cushions at a cost of around €39,000. The second agreement includes 88 sun loungers and 1,500 umbrellas fitted with ashtrays, with a total value exceeding €105,000.
In a statement, the municipality said the project reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing the beach experience for both locals and tourists.
“Our goal is to provide high-quality, visually appealing equipment while also promoting environmental awareness,” the statement noted.
The built-in ashtrays are expected to help reduce cigarette litter—an issue that has long plagued the area’s beaches—and keep the sand cleaner and more enjoyable for visitors.
