AI project launched in Cyprus to align education with the labor market
A three-year research project has started in Cyprus, using artificial intelligence to help better align the education system with labor market needs.
The CySKILLS-AI (Cyprus Skills-Knowledge Intelligence Learning and Labour System) project was officially presented on March 20, 2026, at the CYENS Centre of Excellence in Nicosia. It is being implemented by Artemis Intelligence in collaboration with the CYENS research center, with the participation of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy. Funding is provided through the Research and Innovation Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus.
The initiative aims to address several systemic problems in labor market analysis. These include fragmented data across different systems, a delay of up to 24–36 months between data collection and curriculum changes, and a lack of forecasting tools. Furthermore, existing methods do not allow for the efficient analysis of thousands of job vacancies published every month.
The CySKILLS-AI system will integrate historical research, university data, and current job advertisements into a single platform. This information will then be processed by a set of AI tools capable of identifying skill gaps, analyzing discrepancies between education and market requirements, and predicting future demand for professions.
The resulting data will be accessible through specialized dashboards for government departments, universities, employers, and students.
The project is scheduled to run from March 2026 to March 2029. It is expected that its results will help adapt educational programs more quickly to labor market changes and improve interaction between the education system and the country's economy.
