The number of school assistants in Cyprus has increased — four times more than in 2016

According to the Education Statistics Centre, the number of assistants in Cyprus schools who help children with special educational needs has increased significantly.
In 2016 there were 307 of them, and by the 2024–2025 academic year there were already 1,218.
The growth is due to the fact that more and more children need individual support in the learning process.
Analysts note that not only the number of assistants is growing, but also the burden on schools, as students’ needs are becoming more diverse. The Ministry of Education states that it will continue to expand the support programme so that every child has access to adapted education.
