Cyprus establishes its first state breast milk bank
The Ministry of Health of Cyprus is promoting the creation of the first state breast milk bank.
According to the plan, it will operate at Makarios Hospital and provide for infants whose mothers cannot breastfeed them themselves.
Instructions for donors are currently being developed — how to properly express, store, and transport the milk. Protocols for safe processing and storage are also being formed.
In the first stage, the bank will supply neonatal intensive care units in Nicosia and Limassol. Further expansion of the program is planned for the future.
The project is at an advanced stage of preparation.
