Law enforcement authorities in Limassol are investigating a major vandalism incident that took place in the Limassol Towers residential complex, where an unknown person damaged more than 20 parked cars.

According to police, the incident occurred in the underground parking area of the residential complex and the surrounding territory. The man, whose actions were captured on CCTV cameras, smashed car windows, broke side mirrors and damaged windscreen wipers. Vehicle owners discovered the damage only the following morning and began filing complaints with the police en masse.

Camera footage is now being examined by investigators, who are trying to identify the suspect and establish the circumstances of the incident. It is not ruled out that the offender acted alone.

If detained and charged, the suspect’s actions may be classified under Article 324 of the Criminal Code of Cyprus (Cap.154) — “malicious damage to property,” which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment. If the total damage exceeds 1,700 euros, Article 324A may apply, under which the penalty increases to three years in prison and a fine.

Given that damage has been recorded on more than two dozen cars, the amount of loss is likely to significantly exceed the established threshold.

In addition to criminal prosecution, the suspect may also face civil liability: car owners and insurance companies are entitled to file claims for compensation for damage and repair costs.
