New traffic camera fine system to take effect in Cyprus on March 1

Starting March 1, a new tiered fine system for violations captured by stationary traffic cameras will be implemented in Cyprus. This was announced by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades during a meeting of the parliamentary transport committee. A corresponding memorandum will be submitted to the Cabinet for final approval.

According to the changes, the fine for stopping on a pedestrian crossing at a red light will be 85 euros, down from the current 300 euros.

However, the 300 euro fine will remain for drivers who:

• stop beyond the pedestrian crossing,
• or enter the intersection against a red light.

The separate 25 euro fine for failing to observe the stop line before the traffic light remains unchanged.
