Cyprus police arrest suspects in Nicosia car arson attempt
In Nicosia, a car owner spotted a man attempting to set fire to his vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. On April 20, 2026, police officers arrested a 30-year-old suspect and later a 29-year-old woman. This was reported by the Cyprus Police.
According to the police, information about an attempted car arson in Nicosia was received around 6:00 AM on April 20. Officers arrived at the scene and found a 30-year-old man with injuries.
Police noted that the car owner saw the suspect, after which a struggle ensued between them. As a result, the man was detained and faces criminal charges for attempted arson and assault causing actual bodily harm.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police also arrested another individual—a 29-year-old woman who was detained the previous day under a court warrant.
Both suspects—the 30-year-old man and the 29-year-old woman—are under investigation for crimes related to arson and causing bodily injuries. Nicosia CID (TAE) is continuing its investigation into the case.
