Cypriot divers celebrated Christmas underwater at the Zenobia shipwreck

Off the coast of Larnaca, Cypriot divers traditionally held a Christmas underwater dive, decorating the remains of the legendary ship Zenobia — one of the most famous dive sites in the Mediterranean.

Participants set out to sea from Larnaca Marina aboard the vessel Queen Zenobia and descended to the sunken cargo ferry, which has rested on the seabed since 1980 and has long earned the unofficial name “the Mediterranean Titanic”.

At depth, the divers installed small festive elements, strictly adhering to environmental requirements. All decorations were safe for the marine environment and, after the event, were fully removed to avoid disturbing the ecosystem around the ship.

After the dive, participants were welcomed with a warm festive gathering on board with Christmas treats. Organizers emphasize that such events not only create a holiday atmosphere but also highlight the importance of responsible attitudes toward the sea and the role of diving in Larnaca’s tourism life.
