Due to the high concentration of dust, Cypriots are advised to refrain from outdoor activities

On April 3, the Republic of Cyprus continues to experience a high concentration of dust in the air. The levels have reached critical values, and the population is strongly advised to refrain from outdoor activities.

According to measurements from ground stations of the Ministry of Labour's air quality monitoring network, the permissible concentration of dust in the atmosphere in Nicosia is exceeded twofold. High levels are observed in all regions of the country.

Since the dust contains fine inhalable particles that can have a negative impact on human health, the population is strongly recommended to avoid outdoor movement until the dust storm passes. This primarily applies to particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.

Additionally, employers, after assessing the risks for their employees working in outdoor spaces, should take appropriate organizational or technical measures. Workers in such areas are advised to use appropriate personal protective equipment.

It is noted that "dust" refers to inhalable suspended particles in the atmosphere with a diameter of less than 10 µm (PM10). According to relevant legislation, the limit value refers to the daily average and should not exceed 50 µg/m³.

As of 8:00 on April 3, in Nicosia, this indicator was 100.8 µg/m³, in Limassol - 75.5 µg/m³, in Larnaca - 87.2 µg/m³, in Paralimni - 70.4 µg/m³, and in Paphos - 67.7 µg/m³.
