AKEL Condemns US and Israeli Strikes on Iran
The AKEL party issued a statement condemning the so-called "preemptive strikes" by the US and Israel against Iran, calling them a violation of international law and a threat to regional security.
In the official communication, the party emphasized that the actions of the US and Israel against Iran contradict the UN Charter and the principles of international law.
According to AKEL, given the already tense situation in the Middle East, such strikes could lead to further escalation of the conflict and jeopardize the peace and security of the region's peoples.
The party also stated that a diplomatic settlement was a possible scenario, but this path was ignored. Furthermore, the statement noted that Iran's future should be determined by its people, not by foreign states.
AKEL called on the government of President Nikos Christodoulides to take a stand based on the principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The party noted that such an approach aligns with the position of the Cypriot people, especially considering the situation surrounding the divided island.
