63 accidents in TRNC in a week: two people killed
Between May 4 and 10, 63 road traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC, resulting in two deaths and 18 injuries, police reported.
According to official data, 12 accidents involved casualties, while 49 resulted only in material damage. The total damage from the accidents exceeded 3.7 million Turkish Liras.
The main cause of the accidents was speeding, which accounted for 22 incidents. Another 15 accidents were caused by careless driving, 11 due to failure to follow intersection rules, and eight as a result of dangerous tailgating.
The highest number of accidents was registered in the Famagusta district with 19 cases. There were 18 accidents in Nicosia, 17 in Kyrenia, seven in Güzelyurt, and two in Iskele.
In parallel, police conducted large-scale road inspections. Over 15,000 drivers were checked during the week. Administrative and legal procedures were initiated against 2,516 people, 263 vehicles were impounded, and 13 drivers were detained.
The most common violation was again speeding, with 910 drivers fined. Also identified were 236 cases of operating unregistered vehicles, 154 traffic sign violations, and 116 cases of driving without a valid inspection.
