TDP leader suggests early elections in TRNC before end of year

Communal Democracy Party (TDP) President Zeki Çeler stated that early elections could be held in the TRNC as early as January 2027. According to him, public dissatisfaction with the current government continues to grow, and controversial government decisions may accelerate political processes.
Çeler criticized the current leadership, accusing it of attempting to pass a series of controversial laws before parliament goes on summer recess. He noted that discussions on topics such as port management and antiquity protection issues are increasing social tension and could push the authorities toward earlier elections.
The TDP leader announced that the party has practically completed the preparation of its election program. According to him, the main focus is on reforms in education, healthcare, the economy, and the digital transformation of public administration.
In the educational sphere, the party intends to solve the problem of children's schooling and strengthen support for public schools. In healthcare, TDP proposes the introduction of a universal health insurance system and expanding citizens' access to private clinic services.
Speaking about the economy, Çeler stated that the existing model has "reached a dead end." Proposed measures include combating the shadow economy, expanding the tax base, and the mandatory implementation of e-government.
Separately, the politician criticized the ruling National Unity Party, stating that it fears electoral system reform. He also emphasized the importance of protecting press freedom and media independence.
