Objection Period Opens for the New Minimum Wage in the TRNC

The period for submitting objections to the newly announced minimum wage has officially started in Northern Cyprus. The decision was published in the Official Gazette, granting all parties a 10-day window to file their objections.

The Council of Ministers published the advisory decision on the minimum wage, which was approved during last Friday’s meeting of the Minimum Wage Commission. This new wage, set to take effect on January 1, 2025, will allow stakeholders to raise their objections within the given 10-day timeframe.

On January 17, the Minimum Wage Commission set the first minimum wage for 2025 at 37,818 Turkish lira per month (43,469 TL before taxes), reflecting a 7.5% increase. Despite the raise, worker representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the new figure and voted against it.

In the lead-up to this announcement, the Statistical Institute released data on December and annual inflation rates in Northern Cyprus, followed by updates on public sector salaries.
