Fire safety discussed at the Ministry of the Interior in Northern Cyprus
On 29 January, a meeting on fire safety was held at the Ministry of the Interior in Northern Cyprus, attended by Minister of the Interior Dursun Oğuz, Ministry Director Mehmet Erciliasun, Head of the Police and Fire Department Ramadan Gürpınar, Ministry lawyer Emine Uzun, as well as representatives of civil society organisations and specialists in fire safety and occupational health.
During the meeting, issues related to the protection of buildings against fires, updating existing legislation, and enhancing inspection capabilities were discussed. As a result, it was decided to introduce amendments to a number of current regulations in response to requests from stakeholders.
It was also noted that recent fires had been analysed, with needs identified and ways to address them determined. Minister Dursun Oğuz stressed the need to strengthen supervisory capacity and promised to support the Police and Fire Department to ensure more effective work on the ground.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, this means that the authorities intend to strengthen preventive measures, increase the frequency and quality of fire safety inspections, and improve the responsiveness of fire services.
