Man detained in Lefkosia for begging
A man named Bahattin Aydın appeared in court again in Lefkosia after being detained for begging. According to police, on January 21, 2026, at around 13:30, the man was caught in the act in the Yenişehir area while asking passers-by for money.
The suspect was detained and an investigation was launched. Police continue to determine when and for what purpose he arrived on the island, are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements.
Judge Şevket Gazi granted the police request and ordered that the suspect remain in custody for a further six days.
