Student in Nicosia to face trial for stabbing — 40,000 TL bail set
A fight broke out in a parking lot in Nicosia on April 8, 2026, around 17:30, during which student Onur Koşan was accused of stabbing a man with the initials H.D. Police detained the suspect and brought the case to court.
According to police reports, the conflict began after a prior traffic incident; the parties engaged in a verbal altercation and exchanged blows. According to the investigation, the attacker struck the victim with a 15-centimeter knife, resulting in cuts on H.D.'s body measuring one to two centimeters in length. The victim was taken to the Near East University Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
At the hearing, Judge Şevket Gazi considered the information provided by the police and released Koşan on bail: 40,000 Turkish Liras in cash and a surety bond with a 700,000 TL commitment. He is prohibited from leaving the country and is ordered to report to the police station once a week. Police seized the weapon as evidence; the investigation, interrogations, and review of CCTV footage are ongoing. The accused did not plead guilty.
This situation highlights the public demand for order in parking lots and the need to remain calm during traffic disputes; law enforcement continues to work on the case.
