Shooting in Famagusta: 14 detained, suspect at large
A shooting incident occurred in the Famagusta industrial zone on Tuesday evening, resulting in the police detaining 14 people, while one suspect remains wanted.
According to Turkish Cypriot electronic media citing the police, the event took place around 22:30. Initially, a verbal altercation broke out between three individuals in front of an auto repair shop, which escalated into a fight. Following this, according to the investigation, another person opened fire indiscriminately with an illegally possessed pistol at people nearby, including his relative.
No one was injured in the shooting, but one vehicle was damaged. At the scene, police officers found and seized four 9mm casings, which have been included in the case as material evidence.
As part of the investigation, 14 people involved in the incident or present at the conflict site were detained. The identity of the shooter has been established, but he is in hiding, and the search for him continues.
The police note that the case is being investigated on several counts, including illegal possession of a weapon and participation in a group conflict.
Separately, on the same day in Nicosia, another incident involving drugs was recorded. During an operation by the anti-narcotics and crime prevention department, about 12 grams of a substance presumed to be cannabis, as well as six prescription pills, were found on one suspect and in his home.
The man was detained, and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
