In Northern Cyprus: three fires — three cars damaged and a garage burned down in Famagusta
According to the police press service, several fire incidents were recorded in Northern Cyprus on April 16: in the morning, a parked car caught fire in the Palm Beach area of Famagusta; in the afternoon, a pickup truck caught fire at a construction site in Iskele; and a fire occurred in a residential garage on Korkut Street in Famagusta.
Around 09:00, a parked car with plate number HJ 013 caught fire in the Palm Beach area of Famagusta. According to preliminary data, the cause was likely a short circuit in the engine compartment. Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire; there were no injuries, though material damage was recorded.
At approximately 13:00, a parked pickup truck with plate number YF 048 burst into flames at a construction site in Iskele. A short circuit in the vehicle's electrical system is also reported as the likely cause. The fire was extinguished by the fire service, and the vehicle was damaged.
In Famagusta, a fire broke out for unknown reasons in a residential garage on Korkut Street. Firefighters extinguished the flames, resulting in the destruction of one passenger car, household appliances, furniture, and personal belongings. Authorities remind the public of the risk of short circuits and the need for regular inspections of electrical systems in vehicles and homes.
