Students visit Deputy Police Chief in Northern Cyprus
In Northern Cyprus, as part of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day celebrations, a student delegation visited Deputy Director General of Police Gökay Karagil. The meeting took place on April 21, 2026, reports Kıbrıs Postası.
The delegation was led by Selim Özmenek, the director of the Dr. Suat Günsel Istanbul State Primary School. During the visit, Özmenek noted that the students closely follow the work of the police and consider it successful. He expressed gratitude to Karagil for receiving them on this special day despite his busy schedule.
In response, Deputy Director General of Police Gökay Karagil emphasized that the founder of the republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated April 23 to all the children of the world, and that they are the future leaders. Karagil noted that to become a good administrator, it is important for children to love their country, know their culture, and have a good understanding of geography.
During the reception, student Tibet Demirel, representing Karagil's role, raised the issue of road safety: he drew attention to cases where drivers exceed the speed limit near residential areas. The student requested that the police strengthen "speed control."
The participants also discussed the development of public transport and the prospects for rail links. At the end, the students were able to get a closer look at police and fire vehicles and equipment, with officers answering the students' questions.
