Man arrested for phone harassment of ex-wife
The court reviewed the case again concerning Cem Habulat, who was detained on charges of phone harassment against his former wife.
According to a police officer in court, the investigation was prompted by a complaint filed on 13 January 2026 at the Gonyeli police station. The woman stated that her former husband, residing in Turkey, repeatedly called and sent messages to her despite the end of their relationship.
The police officer explained that the investigation was initiated, but further actions were initially impossible because the suspect was outside the country. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against the man on suspicion of phone harassment.
On 29 January at around 07:00, the suspect was detained upon entry to Northern Cyprus at Ercan Airport. It is noted that he entered the country on a tourist visa.
The police stated that the main part of the investigation has been completed and applied to the court for his detention.
After reviewing the presented testimonies, Judge Shevket Gazi ruled to keep the accused in custody in prison for up to 20 days.
