Erhan Arıklı: Meteorology is Vital for Safety and Disaster Prevention
Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, in a message published on March 23 on the occasion of World Meteorological Day, emphasized the vital importance of meteorological services in Northern Cyprus.
Arıklı noted that meteorology is crucial for ensuring the safety of life and property, as well as for reducing risks associated with climate change and the increasing number of natural disasters. According to him, meteorological observations and early warning systems play a critical role in this process.
The Minister indicated that meteorological services are not limited to daily weather forecasts: "Meteorological services are not limited only to daily weather forecasts; they have strategic importance in fields such as agriculture, transport, environmental management, and disaster risk reduction," the message said.
Arıklı also emphasized the need to strengthen decision-making mechanisms based on scientific data and the priority importance of developing meteorological infrastructure and increasing technological investments. He added that work in this area will continue to ensure the safety of citizens and support the sustainability of economic activities.
The Minister congratulated all workers in the meteorological field on their professional holiday and urged the population to pay attention to meteorological warnings, noting that the effective use of early warning systems saves lives.
