British Media Reveal Details of Moldovan Woman’s Death in a TRNC Nightclub
New details have emerged regarding the tragic death of 24-year-old Moldovan citizen Anastasia Melega, who worked at the Prenses nightclub in Northern Cyprus. According to British media reports, Melega was allegedly lured to the TRNC with promises of a high-paying managerial job, only to have her passport confiscated and be forced into prostitution.
The Daily Mail, a reputable British publication, reported that the deceased was married and left behind a four-year-old child.
Melega was found dead in a room at the nightclub in Alayköy on the night of March 4. Authorities have officially classified her death as suicide.
The case has sparked outrage in the TRNC parliament, with several lawmakers calling for the closure of all nightclubs in the country. The TRNC Ombudsperson, İlkan Varol, has also launched an investigation into the incident.
Additionally, eight intercommunal human rights and women's organizations have demanded a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Melega’s death. They are also calling for an investigation into the nightclub’s management.
"Human trafficking is a serious crime that requires widespread solidarity to combat. Anastasia is not the first victim of these horrific conditions, and sadly, she may not be the last," the organizations stated in a joint declaration published by the Daily Mail.
