Series of anti-drug raids in TRNC: seven people detained

The police conducted large-scale operations in Iskele, Lefkoşa, Ercan, Girne, and Gazimağusa, resulting in the arrest of seven people on suspicion of drug possession and smuggling of goods.

According to the police press office, in Iskele, crime prevention department officers searched the vehicle and home of two suspects — 25-year-old T.I. and 32-year-old A.S. During the search, about five grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, electronic scales with traces of drugs, and 301 electronic cigarettes not declared at customs were discovered.

In the Metehan area of Lefkoşa, police searched the home of a 31-year-old man. Law enforcement officers seized about seven grams of cannabis and two grams of a substance believed to be cocaine. The suspect was detained.

Another detention took place at Ercan Airport. A sniffer dog named Pamir alerted officers to a 48-year-old man arriving in the country during passenger checks. A subsequent search revealed about one gram of a substance believed to be cannabis.

In Girne, police officers stopped a 22-year-old man and his car on Ahmet Aksu Street for a check. During the search, about seven grams of cannabis were found, along with cash in Turkish Liras, US Dollars, British Pounds, and Euros, which investigators believe could be linked to drug trafficking.

Two more people were detained in Famagusta during a patrol on the Tuzla — Mutluyaka road. One of the suspects was found with about two grams of cocaine, and the second with about four grams of a substance believed to be cannabis.
