Nicosia resident struggles to survive on €150 a month
A resident of the Nicosia district has spoken out about the dire financial situation facing her family. While her application for Guaranteed Minimum Income (EEE) is being processed, she receives a temporary allowance of €800 per month.
However, €650 goes toward rent, leaving only €150 for all other expenses — utilities, food, and transport. The family also receives two €50 vouchers from a charitable organization.
The situation is further complicated by serious health issues affecting both the woman and her husband, which prevent them from working. A medical board has recognized her as partially disabled, and doctors have forbidden her from standing for long periods or walking long distances.
Due to the lack of a car, the woman often misses doctor appointments because she cannot afford a taxi. The family also faces mounting utility bills and cannot afford heating during the winter.
Social welfare services confirmed that the woman is indeed receiving temporary assistance, while her application for guaranteed minimum income remains under review.
