A body in an advanced state of decomposition was discovered early this morning in the marine area of the Akamas Peninsula. According to preliminary police theories, it may belong to a man who was reported missing several months ago.

The body was found by a 48-year-old amateur fisherman who arrived at a secluded beach on the peninsula around six in the morning. He immediately reported the find to the police.

Police officers from Paphos and Polis Chrysochous arrived at the scene; the investigation is being led by the criminal investigation department.

Preliminary data suggest the body belongs to a man, but final identification is currently impossible due to the state of the remains. An autopsy and laboratory tissue studies will be conducted to establish the identity.

Police are considering the possibility that the body belongs to one of the missing persons. Meanwhile, investigators are checking other possible scenarios.

Law enforcement also notes that bodies have been found in the Akamas area in the past that may have belonged to foreign nationals—passengers of vessels involved in illegal activities off the island's coast.
