Leading up to Christmas, Covid-19 cases are rising again in Cyprus
The number of Covid-19 cases in Cyprus is once again on the rise. It is expected that during the upcoming holiday season, the number of infections will further increase.
Health concerns have been voiced by the Director of Medical Services, Elizabeth Konstantinou. According to the specialist, there has been an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country in the first week of December. However, this has not led to an increase in the number of hospitalizations.
In total, from December 1 to 7, Cyprus registered 1538 cases of coronavirus infection. During the same period, 32 people were hospitalized with Covid-19. No new strains of the disease have been detected in Cyprus.
Medical professionals attribute the increase in infections to the rise in social contacts before the holidays.
The Director of Medical Services also called on the population to get vaccinated, noting that only 18,000 people received the vaccine this fall.
