28-year-old motorcyclist killed in Nicosia traffic accident
A 28-year-old man, Andreas Antoniou, has died following a road traffic accident in Nicosia.
The accident occurred around 22:20 on Griva Digeni Avenue in the Engomi area. According to police, a 23-year-old woman driving a car collided with the motorcycle ridden by the man under circumstances currently being investigated.
Despite wearing a protective helmet, the motorcyclist sustained severe injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The driver of the car underwent breathalyzer and drug tests, both of which returned negative results. Nevertheless, she has been detained under a court warrant to facilitate the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Nicosia Traffic Police or call the citizen's line at 1460. The investigation is ongoing.
