The premiere of “The Elephant Man” will take place in Nicosia as part of the 2025 International Festival
As part of the Nicosia International Festival 2025, on November 21 the Municipal Theatre stage will host the premiere of Bernard Pomerance’s play “The Elephant Man,” directed by Andreas Kyriakou. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Satiriko Theatre and Audere Productions. The performance starts at 20:30.

The production tells the story of John Merrick, a man with a severe deformation who lived in Victorian London in 1880 and became a symbol of human dignity. The contemporary directorial approach views his story as an allegory for today: doctors resemble influencers, and the spectators of the “freak show” are akin to social media users. The scenography blends Victorian and modern styles, while Merrick’s deformation is portrayed through light, movement, and acting, without realistic effects.
Andreas Kyriakou’s direction makes the performance accessible on multiple levels of perception, enhances empathy, and offers a modern reflection on issues of normality, marginalisation, and collective responsibility.
Tickets can be purchased on the website more.com and at the box office of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
